Subject: Class Foundation Update
Just
an update on how things stand with the class foundation
incorporation.
As
Nikki stated her e-mail sometime ago, the class members
who met and agreed to see to the incorporation of
the class foundation chose "UPIS Diamond Batch
Foundation" for its name.
We
then sent a letter request to Ms. Hermosa that we
be allowed to include the name "UPIS" in
our class foundation. Our request was forwarded to
the University administration for action.
It
was only recently that we got feedback from the Administration.
We
were provided a copy of a resolution of the UP Board
of Regents which required that any organization which
will be using "UP" or "UPIS" in
its corporate or organizational name has to allow
a UP official, appointed by the Board of Regents,
to sit as ex-oficio member of the Board of Trustees
of that organization.
The
appointee will be responsible for providing periodic
reports to the Administration on the activities and
status of the organization/foundation.
For
our class foundation, it would appear under the resolution
that the appointee will be the UPIS Principal.
Last
14 November 2001, some of the would-be foundation
trustees and classmates met over lunch to discuss
this matter, viz.:
- Nikki
Lim
- Maite
Cunanan
- Con-con
Vigilar
- Kim
Lesaca
- Philip
Escudero
- James

After
discussing the pro's and con's of complying with the
BOR requirement was the concensus of those in attendance
that although we may not be comfortable with the arrangement,
we have to comply because we need the name "UPIS"
in the foundation name to give added "pull"
for solicitations and donations.
For
that reason, we will be coordinating with the Administration
as well as with the UP Office of Legal Services on
how to go about with having our request included in
the agenda of the next BOR meeting.
We'd
like your comments on this. If we don't hear from
you, we will assume that you assent to the group's
plan and we will push through with it.
Regards,
Paul
